Dancing Thoughts

Last night I went swing dancing. I only found out about it on Friday, and at the short notice wasn't really able to get anyone to go with me. Which was kinda sad, but I decided to go anyway and have fun by myself.

So, they call everyone up to learn the basic steps, and I'm standing by myself like a loser. They'd told all of the regular dancers to split up and find poor lonely people like me and dance with them. So I got to dance with a boy. That's right, a BOY. Things like this just don't happen every day.

Anyways, boy's name is Doug, and he's tall (and I like tall, even to dance with, and I have never had the "they're too tall" problem with dancing with tall people because I like tall) and he was a regular dancer, so he could actually dance. But there's more (no steak knives).

Doug wanted to keep dancing with me after all the usual dancers left their loser partners and went back to the cool people who can dance. True, I'm not completely unco, but I could only really do the moves that the lesson was on, and that gets pretty boring after a while. So he wasn't just after my smooth moves.

Which brings me to my point. I was kind of sad that day because I looked pretty at church. Huh? Says everyone. But the prettier I look the less any of my friends who are guys want to talk to me. Joab and Keith are exceptions, but that's it.

It's nice to not be avoided because you put some effort into your appearance. It's nice to know that when I put any kind of effort into my appearance other people appreciate it. And yes, it is nice to feel like you look pretty.

Next point:
Going dancing next week, same place, different dance style - Afro-Funk. Calling all volunteers, male, female, church and secular. It's from 6:30 to 9:30 Sunday evening at Fitroy Gardens in the city (near Parliment station). The event is free, there is a live band after the dance class. Bring a picnic, it's lots of fun.

If you want to come, leave a comment or text me, and so that I can look out for you. You can just rock up (no bookings required) but if I don't know you're coming I'm not searching for you. Because I'll be too busy dancing with random boys who think I'm pretty. That's right. Sam's gonna dance!

Not At Church This Sunday

Because I will be at the Portarlington Celtic Festival!

My whole family is going, 'cause my Dad lives in Portarlington. Apparently the whole place books out months before hand.

So I'm going to be doing a whole lot of Scottish, Irish, andd probably some Brettony dancing, listen to a whole lot of music, poetry, and maybe even start learning Gaelic (on my list of languages to learn - my Mum speaks Gaelic (Scotish version) the way I speak German - mostly forgotten). I won't learn to play the Bagpipes - thats for BOYS!

So if you have a birthdy present for me, don't bring it to church this week, but save it for next week. I won't be at Touching Heaven, so don't bring it then either. Next Sunday.

And if you don't yet have a present for me, this gives you an extra week to buy me one. And just so as you know, you're competing with the Beatles and a breadmaker. ;p

Kal and I are Clearly Awesome Dancers

I got Kal to come with me to Scottish last night (Friday), and she did really well, and had fun.

Today we went swing dancing, and before the class, one of the boys came up to talk to us. He started to invite us to every single thing he could think of. He was really pushing for us to go. I'd like to point out, he looked mostly at Kallie. Which means that we are both awesome dancers, and that Kal is, in my friend Adam's words, "Hot".

That means that church boys are going to have to get their act together, or else the beautiful Kal will slip through their fingers.

Man, Kal, we are awesome.

Dancing

Clearly, the best thing to do a week after being injured (and a day after taking still more time off) is to go dancing. And then to go dancing again the next day.

So, I went dancing (Scots) ast night, and had lots of fun. We danced Shiftin' Bobbins among other dances. I love Shifting Bobbins; it flows so beautifully.

Then today Kal and I went to Swing. That woud be where I did my injury in the first place. I don't remember what the step was called. But it was fun, and I don't think I'm injured, although my legs are sore.

The funniest thing is, after class, Kal and I discuss the different dancers - which of the guys were easy to dance with, which were difficut, etc etc. I said that I found one of the guys called Rodney to be the easiest person to dance with. Kallie said, "No way! He was way too tall!" I replied that I didn't find that to be a problem. I like tall, even in dancing partners.

The Night of Awesomeness

No, I'm not dead. I've been busy. Doing... stuff. Really I have!

So, stuff part one outlined:

Not Australia Day Sunday (NOT Chinese New Year Sunday, Australia Day, because I am AUSTRALIAN (sort of) and not Chinese and so you better wish me a happy Australia Day and not Happy New Year) but the Sunday BEFORE that, we went dancing.

Well, before that I went out to see Steph, T, Claire, Winnie and Alan. And before that I went to church. And these things were both very nice, but not very blogsworthy. I got several invites to go swing dancing. On the third invite, I went.

It was AWESOME. I bought the band's CD. Kal and I danced together like retards, Alicia danced beautifully, Jean-Marc danced well, Adrian danced very well, but not as well as Alicia.

Then, we went home.

You think the story ends there! Ha! You are WRONG!

Kal and I were on the train back, and there was this guy, who was more than moderately good-looking. A bit young for us (around 20-22) but good looking. And then the train stopped, and a lady got on, barged her way to some seats, so that she wouldn't have to sit next to two other people who were getting on - an elderly Chinese couple. The man sat down next to an Indian man, but the lady sat down next to the lady, who was very obviously taking up seats so she wouldn't have to sit next to them. The lady jumped up, made a racist remark, and the good looking boy came to the defence of the Chinese lady. Racist lady went off at good looking boy, several times, Ticket Inspecters (who have done nothing to stop racist lady) start to ask the good looking boy to move to the next carriage. Where upon everyone else in the carriage jumped to his defence. The ticket inspecters moved racist lady to the next carriage, where she began to phone her friends tomar the wonderful creation that was the good looking boy. Ticket inspecters still oblivious. They were alerted to this, and then they stopped her.

It was an eventful night.

Kal and I are taking up swing dancing. What are the odds that good looking boy will be there...?
