I recently bought a new skirt at an op shop - a beautiful dark red. I didn't have any head coverings to wear with it, but I soon found one at Target. And being on placement (makes Sam sad), I get to wear whatever I want. (Except the studd I'm taking to Uganda. That I can't).
So I wear that.
Anyway, I went to Touching Heaven wearing it.
Shaun looked at me. "You have a red skirt on."
"Yes." I said.
"And a red hat."
"Yes."
"Where is your red shirt?" he asked.
I informed him that you could NOT wear a red shirt with a red skirt and red hat. You needed a neutral colour in between. So I was wearing a black skivvy.
He thought for a second. "The least you could have done was wear red lipstick," said the indignant boy.
"I am."
He looked at me again, said "So you are," and went off.

I alway knew I'd have Asian children...
but I kinda assumed they would be girls.
Instead, I've got 2 sons.
Isaac (at work) calls me Mumma, and cries when I leave the room. He also spends half his time running up to me and the other half running away from me. That said, he is 18 months
But my other Asian son is from church. And he is a little older than 18 months.
Vincent is my oldest child, but definitely not the most mature. In fact, he spent most of my first ever care group lesson trying to distract me and cracking jokes. And calling me Mummy.
But he made up for it. The lesson was on how Proverbs 31 is relevant for the whole church. And one of the verses we talked about was, "Her children rise up and call her blessed."
At which he stood up, and then katowed to me, shouted out "Blessed!"
Now to expand my family... who knows? Maybe I'll even get a girl?

Puritans and Philistines
On the way to prayer I spent some time reading a book on the puritans. They’re interesting, and underrated (even if difficult reads) .
So I got there and people wanted to know what I was reading. I would just flash them the cover, then go back to the book.
Shaun looked at it and asked, “Who are the puritans?”
I explained that they were the English Reformers who strove for greater purity within the church and their personal lives, and sought to bring all aspects of living under the command of Scripture.
I also said that if someone calls you a puritan now days, they probably don’t mean it as a compliment. They mean that you’re a killjoy.
“So they’re different from the Philistines then?”

Thanks Keith
Because of the KFC Father's Day item, I come into the main service late, so I get to hang out at the back of the church. Just like school, the back of the hall is where all the dodgies hang out. I fit right in.
When communion came round, Keith (head of all dodginess) said that we should go forward and make sure they didn't miss us. I think he's been missed before. I, on the other hand, have been at the back for a few weeks and have not been missed once. I guess the communion servers realise that I need all the help I can get.
Besides, I'm allergic to half of the communion, and I told Keith so.
"Yeah, I bet it's not the cup. You'd never be giving that up."

I Gave That Up Years Ago
I was busy trying to give away books when Shaun came up to me, very apologetic. "I forgot about your birthday!"
It's all right, he's not the only one. Though so far he is the only one to apologise for it.
I got him a present at his birthday, and when I was trying to find out what he wanted, his response was "the same thing every 25 year old male wants".
Turns out, they want comic books.
So I responded to his question about what I wanted with "the same thing every 27 year old female wants."
His response...
"Dignity?"

Breaking into C-Block
It's amazing what I get up to on a Sunday. After church, we have sometimes have Christian Development School, or CDS. Because I'm not a big fan of socialising, I was one of the earlier people to get over to the C-Block. And when I was there, I found Uncle Paul and Joab waiting (not particularly patiently) while Chiew was getting the key.
Now, in case you didn't know this, Joab is extremely bad at waiting.
So he was trying to climb in the window. He was also failing miserably. I decided to have a go. After all, other than being sick, climbing through windows I wasn't supposed to was what I did in primary school. Sometimes I even had to climb up drainpipes to do it. But I was wearing a skirt, and couldn't quite do it.
Joab, by this time, absolutely can't stand it. So he goes to his car and gets an umbrella and trys to hook a chair and bring it through the gap in the window. Uncle Paul and I are both laughing at this, because there is NO WAY a chair was going to fit through that gap.
Joab eventually gives up on that idea, and looks at the chain holding the window at the right degree of open-ness. "If I had a screw-driver, I could unhook it, then we could lift out the chair, and Sam would be able to get through the window and let us in."
"Yes, but that really would be breaking and entering, and not just climbing through a window," said Uncle Paul.
After a few moments of watching Joab dance around because he's really impatient, I decide to put him out of his misery. No, I didn't shoot him. I rolled a boulder over to the window and used that to climb in.
What can I say? My years in primary school were well spent, and I think I actually have more patience than a leader in our church, even if that leader is Joab.

A Girl Hits Joab
So, we had our half night of prayer on Saturday night. My group was on set-up, so I arrived early. When we walked up, Jasmine said, "We passed Joab on the way. He was exchanging phone numbers with a girl."
Car accident number 50 billion for Joab.
Which resulted in massive teasing the moment he rocked up.
"She hit me!" he insisted.
"Yeah, right," I said.
"Why is so hard to believe that a girl hit me?"
"Well, I want to hit you all the time, but I don't usually use a car to do it."
I bet it really was his fault!

One of the Two
So, Joab's reading my blog again. He goes through spurts where he catches up on all old posts.
How do I know this? He talked to Kallie about how he's worried I'm going to declare my undying affections to someone in Chinese.
The question is: does he know who? does he have suspicions as to who?
Kallie tried to find out, but that boy has a brain that just doesn't work like a normal persons. So she couldn't.
"Maybe he could help," she suggested afterwards.
"Nah, I think he just doesn't want to miss me humilating myself in front of everyone."

I'm A Real Blogger Now!
I would just like to point out that I have a blog stalker. Yay! Go Melissa! You are awesome!
Turns out she's been stalking me for two years. Which so isn't creepy. It's awesome.
And as she loved the post on boys being different ages, I'm going to add a few more details...
- I attract 2 year olds. I don't object to this. Notice the easily confused part. I like to take advantage. It gets me chocolate.
- Most of Kallie's friends are 3 year olds, including her boyfriend, Stephen.
- Most of my closer guy friends are 4 year olds.
On a vaguely related note, I had the opportunity to say "Wo Ai Ni" to the boy I like at the Missions meeting. I didn't do it. Unfortunately, everyone speaks Chinese, at least in my church. Heck, even Kallie knows what it means from watching lots and lots of dramas. So I chickened out and told him to read my blog. I bet he won't.
And yes, he's two. What can I say? I have a type.

Friends at the Wedding
Elena tries to look dodgy, and almost suceeds. Good thing for her she really is dodgy.

Stephen. For once he isn't wearing a waistcoat.

Alicia is blurry. Be assured that she isn't as blurry in real life.

Kallie hides behind her program. I think she looks quite fetching. I also think she's going to kill me.

Hey, there is a picture of me not wearing my jacket! I look better in the drawing. There are a few other photos of me sans-jacket floating about. Shaun took one, and Allan did. Kallie has some artsy pics of me wearing the jacket, which I expect Desperado will upload.

Drawing Chiann & Anton's Wedding
Before I post all my photos and blog about Chiann and Anton's wedding, I thought I'd show you all my drawings from it. There are just two.
This is Chiann and Anton. They are feeling each others' arms. Mostly it is because I don't like to draw hands.

This is me in my awesome dress. Mostly I'm posting this one because it was too cold for anyone to see my dress. Except I occasionally took off my jacket for photos. And no, I am not that skinny in real life.

I'll post real pictures later.

Joab's Humiliation Commences
The words say, "That's us, being cool." It's me and Kal, and we are looking at each other going, "Oh my goodness."
That's Amy and Elaine Li. They are both looking sideways. What are they looking at? Obviously Joab, wearing a pink apron.
As you can see, Shaun is not impressed.
Mavis said it looks just like him (Joab). I think my drawing skills are awesome. Who agrees?

I Lay Down My Life
I was at Freedy's birthday party. It was at Hog's Breath Cafe, so as you can imagine, there isn't exactly much I can eat there. I had the same thing I had the last time I was there. Vegetarian Nachos minus the cheese and the sour cream.
Anyway, I'm a fast eater. Most of my family is. We shovel our food in like no tomorrow, and then try and leave the table. So coupled with the fact that I'm eating nachos while everyone else is eating steaks, I'm finished substantially before anyone else.
I was sitting next to Ken. Ken had chips. I love chips. I reached over and pinched one of his chips.
"I thought you're not allowed to have them."
"I'm not. They make me stop breathing." And I pinched another one.
"At least I'm not eating them. You are saving me from lots of calories."
"What can I say," I say, shrugging false-modestly.
"Thank you for being willing to sacrifice your life for me."

My Babies Are In Danger
Care group has been at our house for the past few months. Which is nice for me, because it means when I don't want to play games I just leave and do the washing up, or something THAT ISN'T A WASTE OF TIME LIKE GAMES. (Sam not like games.)
So while everyone was there I decided to get out John and Yoko. Ken was more than slightly freaked out. This meant that I waved Yoko in front of his face several times, making him jump each time. Things like that are important to me. Then I even made him hold her. Ken was not exactly thrilled.
Eventually I took him out of his misery and took Yoko away from him, and waved her in front of Lionel. Who promptly opened his mouth and tried to eat her! Not cool, definitely not cool. My babies are in danger, and from more than one Singaporean.

Freedy Gets Bit, Joab Gets Hit
At church, Kallie and I observed Freedy's arm. It was covered with mozzie bites, and each of the mozzie bites were swelling quite nastily. We commiserated, and suggested anti-histamines.
Joab came over, and was shown the bites. He then said, "What has Anna been doing to you?"
Anna gave Joab a high-five, then said that if it was her that bit Freedy the marks would have been bigger.
I then made the statement that Aussie mozzzies are racist. They like Asian blood. And as a general rule, Asians swell quite nastily when bitten.
Joab then looked at me and said, "Oh no, I've got a comment, but I can't make it because you'll hit me."
Now, you can't do that. You can't say things like, "I'm not telling you" and expect me to not force you to spit it out.
"You know, the real reason the mozzies went for Freedy and not you is that they're on a low fat diet."
And you can re-read the title of this post to see my reaction.

Chinese Funnies
If Only She Had Suceeded
Anna wanted our CG to go out for Chinese New Year. In order to drag the White Girl along, she bribed her with the promise of "a hot Chinese guy". I told her that he needed to be tall, and want 20 children.
Anna thought for a second, then said, "I guess he'll have to be Chinese Chinese then, not Singaporean or Malaysian."
Ken's Funny
So at the said Chinese New Year dinner, I'm there talking to Ken. And as it always does when you're talking to me, the topic got around to babies.
"So when do you plan to have your first baby?" he asked.
"When I'm fifteen."
"You're 25 now, right?"
"Yep."
"Sam, I think you need a new plan."
And At Work
Megan is the cook's daughter. She came up to me and offered me some "sweets". I pretended to eat them. Megan apologised for them saying, "They're not very sweet."
"That's all right. They can be Chinese lollies."
"That's because they're TANBARK!"

Darn Chinese
I'd just like to say, Chinese people are thieves. That's right. Thieves! They STEAL things! Especially festivals!
Last year, Chinese New Year was celebrated on Jan 26th. What incredibly momentous day is that? Australia Day!
This year, they are stealing our festival of Love. Stealing Valentine's Day! How could they? Don't they know that Valentine's is the day when all us desperate singels get to declare our undying affection to the one we love in an anonymous fashion? Seriously, not cool.
On the bright side, I'm celebrating Chinese New Year with my care-group. Anna has promised to help me pick up a hot Chinese boy (though I'm not sure I trust her taste as she picked Freedy) so maybe I'll get Valentine's after all.
