The President Hacked My Email

I found out why I had blogger but no email. The President was in town, and the only email that anyone I knew had was working was my uni one.

That's right, the President blocked all our emails.

I didn't see him. I did see his car. Actually, I saw all of them. I lost count how many cars.

He has left Mbale, and so we now have (slow) internet and (slow) email.

Seriously, could my life be any funnier?

Sorry

For the lack of posting. What can I say? Working full time and studying full time while serving in church and prepping to go to Uganda makes me boring. I haven't even practised the harp, or worked on Luganda. That's right, I'm lazy. Or I would be, if I wasn't too busy fitting uni assignments into my work day.

Anyways, I will hopefully post a post on the PA celtic festival, and maybe about the one funny thing that's happened, sometime soon. But no guarentees...

All the videos in this set are beautiful (very visually stunning, and have a wonderful messege) but this one is stunning.

It is the third, so watch all three!

Permanent Blog Damage

This year has been kind of light blogging-wise on Sam-Is-Mad. My other blog has been posting more and more frequently (I'm now scheduling posts daily, and am currently 1 month in advance, which is on purpose, because I'm going away.) I'm even managing to post more often on the NOW FULLY APPROVED missions blog. But S-I-M... not so much.

Most of this is simple. My friends are all getting older. And certain people are bigger contributers to the insanity that is S-I-M than others. (Joab immediately comes to mind here.) But the problem is this... most of my main funny people are doing the dreaded PHD.

It's not enough for them that they are getting Permanent Head Damage, they are making blogging funny stuff so much harder. Joab, Shaun, Kallie, you all make me sad. Except Kallie. She's still funny. But most of her funny is in-jokes or inappropriate for general reading.

Please, please finish your PHDs soon. I need to get over this blog damage. It makes me sad.

Internet Blues

As several of you are aware, at home, Kal and I are net-less. It makes us both very sad. Stephen said he was going to be arranging said internet (Kal and I only have pre-paid mobiles, and can't use phones at work most of the time) but, what can I say? The boy is a slacker.

Though not all that much interesting has been happening. Which is probably a good thing. I don't know how much interesting I can handle at the moment.

So I thought I'd let you guys all know about all the different things I would be doing on the internet if I had it at home.

- Stalking Art Garfunkel. That's what the internet is for really. Stalking people. Besides, what if he had a new CD coming out? I could be distraught and sad without it.

- Writing about serious, boring things for my other blog. Sure, it's less interesting than this blog, but I probably post there a bit more often, or at least I do WHEN I HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET.

- Laughing at people I know who have very dorky blogs. This is one of Kal's favourite things to do on the internet.

- Doing the research I'm supposed to do for Ps Ian. Yeah, it isn't happening, and it might not even if I had the net. But it does give me a really awesome excuse for why it isn't. That, and collapsing.

- Watching dramas. You know that they're the best. Don't deny it. They fill an inherent need for melodrama in the life of everyone everywhere. This would be extra useful as I need to sew about a million badges on my brother's scout blanket.

- Going the the Suzi Blu La Petit Academy and looking at everyone's pictures. And uploading pictures of my own. And then getting inspiration from everyone's pictures.

- Googling completely random things, just because I have the internet and I can.

Internet, how I miss you.

I'm A Real Blogger Now!

I would just like to point out that I have a blog stalker. Yay! Go Melissa! You are awesome!

Turns out she's been stalking me for two years. Which so isn't creepy. It's awesome.

And as she loved the post on boys being different ages, I'm going to add a few more details...

- I attract 2 year olds. I don't object to this. Notice the easily confused part. I like to take advantage. It gets me chocolate.
- Most of Kallie's friends are 3 year olds, including her boyfriend, Stephen.
- Most of my closer guy friends are 4 year olds.

On a vaguely related note, I had the opportunity to say "Wo Ai Ni" to the boy I like at the Missions meeting. I didn't do it. Unfortunately, everyone speaks Chinese, at least in my church. Heck, even Kallie knows what it means from watching lots and lots of dramas. So I chickened out and told him to read my blog. I bet he won't.

And yes, he's two. What can I say? I have a type.

Comment for Kids

For those of you who haven't noticed, I really like kids. I want to have not only my 'own' (read bio) kids, but plan to adopt internationally.

While children wait for a "forever family" they are usually housed in orphanages, which, depending on the area, can lack very basic and necessary things, such as toys, medical things, and in some areas even food can be in very short supply.

And for those of you who haven't heard, a adopting mother is having a comment-fest on her blog. For every comment made this week, she will donate $1 to An Orphan's Wish, which helps orphanages in China.

Another reader has pitched in and is matching the pledge.

Other readers have similar posts, and a few are giving lump sums.

Hop on over to this post on Ni Hao Y'all and comment away!

On A Birthday Related Note

Desperado has done a birthday post about me. And as there is a simply smashing photo of me (sorry for the phony British accent there) on it, you had all better click on over.

Apparently, I am very awesome. What can I say? I just am.

Best Sentence Ever

Hanging up the phone, I realized that I just agreed to adopt a baby without discussing it with my husband. Oops.

Sam Is An Awesome Artist

Last Friday (yes, that would be Good Friday) I was sorting through my internet favourites, which is something I try to do occasionally so that I don't end up having 50 million links to random things I mean to look up later. One of the pages I looked at had links to a bunch of art journalling sites, on of which was A Lovely Dream by Suzi Blu. Click over. Click over NOW.

She's 3/4 insane, and more than slightly hippie/Buddist, but her art is so delicious. And so I watched a few of her videos on Youtube, and decided that I'm going to draw Petit Dolls. So I did.

I'm going to upload the pictures in a few different posts - a serious drawing post, a funny drawing series post, and my paintings post. Sorry, you'll have to wait because the photos are not so good because of the light in our kitchen.

Be assured, funny pictures are hilarious. Unless you're Joab, and then they just make you cross. But eveyone else who has seen them has thought they were hilarious.

Now to make more art!

Audio Giveaway

At the moment, several of the blogs I regularly read have been mentioning the NCFIC "Sufficiency of Scripture Conference". Being out of the US means I can't even really consider going to a whole lot of these conferences, but I can (and often do) buy the audio afterward!

For those who weren't able to attend, you can purchase the audios here:
http://ncfic.org/conferenceaudiopreorder

or visit their conference page...

And if you are interested in getting some audios for free then hop over to Life in A Shoe - which is hosting a giveaway for this event!

Saving Hailee

I've added a button. As many of you will know, I adore children, and adoption is an issue close to my heart. I recently learnt of this family who are aiming to adopt Hailee. Due to the changes in the policy of that country they need to get everything done as soon as they can, because at any point Hailee can be fostered out - in which case she is unlikely to survive.

Please consider donating, and please pray!

Desperado Lives!

Our house has, as you might have realised by now, a mouse. We called him Desperado, after Despereux. Today I thought he passed away in the rain, but Kallie claimed it was his inbred cousin Frankie the Rat.

It would appear that Kallie is right, and that Desperado has started his own blog. Welcome to the blogging world, Desperado!

Apologies

Sorry for the lack of blogging lately. The truth is, I've been reading. You thought I read before. Ha! I pity such reading!

On Monday I read two books.
On Tuesday I read three.
Wednesday, another three.
Thursday, another three.
Friday, only two. But I read several chapters of another book, which was awful and I decided not to finish it. This meant that I didn't HAVE another book to read, because I'd already finished the other one I brought with me.
Today, I read three. And I'm a fifth of the way through another. I'm expecting to finish it.

So, 16 books so far this week. And another day to go.

I have done a few other bits and pieces. I listened to a few lectures on the history of the world. I've made some more progress on the toy lion I'm knitting. I listened to three audio sermons. I even went to work, TWCG, and caught up with Wesley friends (hence the 'only' two books on Monday).

I am on a roll. I am reluctant to pause for blogging, especially as funny stuff is not really happening at the moment. I'm too busy reading.

Okay, Who Was It?

I get emailed all the comments. So imagine how pleased I was when someone actually had done my literary meme. On the other hand, this is what they wrote:

1. What are you currently reading?
1.The mX "Here's looking at you".

2. What books did you most recently buy?
2. "The Rules: the best kept secrets for capturing Mr Right".

3. What family from literature would you most like your future family to resemble?
3. The Lion King- Simba's Pride.

4. What family from literature are they most likely to ACTUALLY resemble?
4. Lot's. From the bible.

5. Clothes from what book (or historical period) that you wish would come back into fashion, because it would look COMPLETELY AWESOME on you?
5. The 80's. I like shoulder pads.

6. Clothes from what book (or historical period) that you wish would come back into fashion, because it would look COMPLETELY AWESOME on members of the opposite gender?
6. The Garden of Eden.

7. What literary character would you run off with?
7. Draco Malfoy.

8. What literary character would you write out of existence?
8. Mr Darcy. Too many girls like him, but he's a cold snob.

9. What animal from literature would you have as a pet?
9. Puff the magic dragon.

10. What fairy-tale would you like to live in?
10. Cinderella. I like shoes. And a girl who cleans is awesome.

11. What evil fairytale character would you be most likely to be?
11. Cinderella's step-mother. Clean that kitchen!

12. What poet (living or dead) would you have write you a love poem?
Robert Burns.
12. Some angsty emo kid on myspace. Or Shakespeare's Mum.

Guess who this is? Hahaha! If you get it right, you win brownies.

JOAB?! WAS IT YOU?!

Literary Meme:

I've been wanting to make up one of these for ages - mostly because I want to post the crazy answers.

1. What are you currently reading?
The Mythology of Science, The Normans, The Nature of Love.

2. What books did you most recently buy?
How to Calculate Quickly and The Kings of Clonmel (Ranger's Apprentice, book 8).

3. What family from literature would you most like your future family to resemble?
Probably the Keith family from the Millie Keith books. Although the Murray/O'Keefe clan and the Austin family by Madeleine L'Engle are hard on the heels of the Keith family.

4. What family from literature are they most likely to ACTUALLY resemble?
The Larkin family.

5. Clothes from what book (or historical period) that you wish would come back into fashion, because it would look COMPLETELY AWESOME on you?
Regency period, i.e. Jane Austen novels.

6. Clothes from what book (or historical period) that you wish would come back into fashion, because it would look COMPLETELY AWESOME on members of the opposite gender?
Regency period, i.e. Jane Austen and Hornblower novels. Although it might make church a little odd. I can't picture Asian boys wearing Regency navy uniforms... probably a good thing.

7. What literary character would you run off with?
Heathcliff. What can I say? I like the dark obsessing types. And I bet he's TALL.

8. What literary character would you write out of existence?
Joesph from Wuthering Heights. ANNOYING.

9. What animal from literature would you have as a pet?
The hen that laid the golden eggs would be nice...

10. What fairy-tale would you like to live in?
Beauty and the Beast. I bet the Beast was TALL.

11. What evil fairytale character would you be most likely to be?
The witch from Rapunzel.

12. What poet (living or dead) would you have write you a love poem?
Robert Burns. And I'd get at least two poems out of him - a in love poem, and a break up poem. AWESOME. As long as he didn't refer to me as Haggis in either poem. Yuck, Yuck, YUCK. But his poetry is Yum, Yum, YUM.

Giveaway: Princess Adelina

Kim C from Life in a Shoe is giving away a book! Which would alone be cause enough for delight. Because as you might have noticed, I love books. Especially ones from Vision Forum. (Sam is a future quiverful mummy! Yay! The only Pentacostal quiverful ever... or at least the only one I've ever met!)

Anyway, the point is, the book looks awesome. I haven't read it yet, but it was one of the free items I got from my massive order. You know, the one where we spent so much I got all this stuff! And I was going to buy it, but I prefer to get things for free. (Who doesn't?!)

Which book? The Princess Adelina: An Ancient Christian Tale of Beauty and Bravery. The Coughlan family found and edited the book themselves!

Now, I already have a copy of this book, but I know a person (who may or may not be known as Reb) who would like a copy too. So here's hoping I win it!

Failing that, Haison, your Christmas present is found.
